Ohio 4-H Clover Awards Program Overview

Purpose:

To encourage 4-H members to engage in a variety of projects and activities, to enable members to refine their record keeping abilities, and to enhance their leadership skills. The Clover Awards program also is designed to recognize youth for their continued involvement and growth through the 4-H program.

Background:

The Ohio 4-H Clover Award program encompasses the progression of leadership skill development in 4-H members as they grow in the 4-H program. Levels are based on developmentally appropriate activities and natural progression of skills and types of activities pertaining to a member’s age, experience in 4-H, and opportunities available.

Prerequisites for ALL LEVELS:

1. Youth may begin applying for Clover Awards as project age members; 8 and in the 3rd grade or 9 years old as of January 1st of the year they are applying. All work listed on the form must be from project age forward.

   • Youth must be 16 as of January 1st to apply for the Emerald level award.

2. Member must be a member in good standing with Allen County 4-H program (including but not limited to attending the minimum number of club meetings and completing at least one approved 4-H project during the program year).

3. Member may take multiple years to complete one level, if necessary.

4. Members may only win each level award one time in their 4-H career.

5. Members may use dates from the current program year or previous participating program years on level applications. However, members may only use the event and date once when completing any and all application levels. (i.e. you attend the county round-up in 2021, 2022, and 2023. You may use each of these events and dates as you attended three times. You may not use county round-up 2021 on multiple level applications.)

6. Activities used must be approved by the respective county, state, or national levels. Please see end of this document for a list of approved activities and/or examples of county level activities.

Deadlines:

• • Levels 1-4 (White, Bronze, Silver, Gold) are due to Allen County Extension Office by October 15^th.

  • Level 5 (Emerald Award) forms are due to the state 4-H office by December 1.

Awards

• • Levels 1-4 (White, Bronze, Silver, Gold) will be awarded after November 1^st.

  • Level 5 (Emerald Award) will be recognized on stage at the following year's Ohio 4-H Teen Award Luncheon in March.

LEVEL 1: WHITE CLOVER

Member must complete FOUR of the following tasks:

1. Give a demonstration related to their project at a club or group meeting.

2. Complete at least one 4-H project.

3. Attend at least one county 4-H activity or event.

4. Host a meeting, provide refreshments, lead a game or activity, or provide a report at a club meeting.

5. Participate in a citizenship activity (local government day, school board meeting, township/city council meeting, county commissioners meeting, etc.).

6. Participate in a community service activity with your 4-H club or as part of your 4-H project.

7. Help with a 4-H club activity or event or fundraiser or serve on a club committee.

8. Participate in a 4-H promotional activity (social media, newspaper, scrapbook, window display, TV/radio appearance, parade, educational display, etc.).

Once the required number of tasks are completed, the member

must submit the White Clover Reporting Form to Allen County Extension Office by October 15th.

 

LEVEL 2: BRONZE CLOVER

Member must complete SIX of the following tasks:

1. Give a demonstration related to their project at a club or group meeting.

2. Complete at least one 4-H project from a new or different project area that you haven’t explored before.

3. Attend at least two county 4-H activities or events.

4. Host a meeting, provide refreshments, lead a game or activity, or provide a report at a club meeting.

5. Attend a day or residential 4-H camp.

6. Participate in a citizenship activity (local government day, school board meeting, township/city council meeting, county commissioners meeting, etc.).

7. Participate in a community service activity with your 4-H club or as part of your 4-H project.

8. Help with a 4-H club activity or event or fundraiser or serve on a club committee.

9. Participate in a 4-H promotional activity (social media, newspaper, scrapbook, window display, TV/radio appearance, parade, educational display, etc.).

10. Serve as a club officer/committee chair.

Once the required number of tasks are completed, the member must submit the Bronze Clover Reporting Form to Allen County Extension Office by October 15th.

 

LEVEL 3: SILVER CLOVER

Member must complete EIGHT of the following tasks:

1. Give a demonstration related to their project beyond the club level

2. Complete at least one 4-H project from a new or different project area that you haven’t explored before.

3. Attend at least two county 4-H activities or events.

4. Participate in a 4-H contest (county/state/national) (Examples include Communications, Workforce, Livestock Judging, Foods, etc.).

5. Attend a day or residential 4-H camp.

6. Attend at least one regional or state event.

7. Participate in a citizenship activity (local government day, school board meeting, township/city council meeting, county commissioners meeting, etc.).

8. Participate in a community service activity with your 4-H club or as part of your 4-H project.

9. Help with a 4-H club activity or event or fundraiser or serve on a club committee.

10. Participate in a 4-H promotional activity (social media, newspaper, scrapbook, window display, TV/radio appearance, parade, educational display, etc.).

11. Serve as a club officer/committee chair.

12. Serve on a county 4-H committee or officer position.

Once the required number of tasks are completed, the member must submit the Silver Clover Reporting Form to Allen County Extension Office by October 15th.

 

 

LEVEL 4: GOLD CLOVER

Member must complete TWELVE of the following tasks:

1. Complete at least one 4-H project from a new or different project area that you haven’t explored before.

2. Exhibit at least one 4-H project at the state fair.

3. Attend at least three county 4-H activities or events.

4. Participate in a 4-H contest (county/state/national (Examples include Communications, Workforce, Health and Safety Speaking, Livestock Judging, Foods, etc.).

5. Attend a day or residential 4-H camp.

6. Attend at least 1 regional or state event.

7. Attend at least 1 national 4-H event (CWF, National 4-H Conference, IGNITE, etc.)

8. Participate in a cultural immersion experience (Puerto Rico, Greece, D.C., etc.).

9. Provide leadership for a citizenship activity (local government day, school board meeting, township/city council meeting, county commissioners meeting, etc.).

10. Provide leadership for a 4-H club community service project or as part of your 4-H project.

11. Provide leadership for a 4-H club activity or event or fundraiser.

12. Assist with a 4-H promotional activity (social media, newspaper, scrapbook, window display, TV/radio appearance, parade, educational display, etc.).

13. Teach a state level workshop (O4HC, OFMA, etc.).

14. Assist a younger member with their project or demonstration.

15. Serve as a club officer/committee chair.

16. Serve on a county 4-H committee or teen leadership position (Camp Counselor, Junior Fair Board, Jr. Leaders, CARTEENS, etc.).

17. Serve on a state board or council (TLC, Fashion Board, 4HEYA, 4-H Foundation Board, etc.).

18. Interview for a position at county or state level (royalty, committee chair, officer, etc.).

Once the required number of tasks are completed, the member must submit the Gold Clover Reporting Form to Allen County Extension Office by October 15th.

 

LEVEL 5: EMERALD CLOVER

Member must complete FOURTEEN of the following tasks and be at least 16 years old as of January 1 of the year completing:

1. Complete at least one 4-H project from a new or different project area that you haven’t explored before.

2. Exhibit at least one 4-H project at the state fair.

3. Attend at least three county 4-H activities or events.

4. Participate in a 4-H contest (county/state/national (Examples include Communications, Workforce, Health and Safety Speaking, Livestock Judging, Foods, etc.).

5. Attend a day or residential 4-H camp.

6. Attend at least 1 regional or state event.

7. Attend at least 1 national 4-H event (CWF, National 4-H Conference, IGNITE, etc.).

8. Participate in a cultural immersion experience (Puerto Rico, Greece, D.C., etc.).

9. Provide leadership for a citizenship activity (local government day, school board meeting, township/city council meeting, county commissioners meeting, etc.).

11. Complete and submit a state achievement award form.

12. Provide leadership for a 4-H club activity or event or fundraiser.

13. Organize a 4-H promotional activity (social media, newspaper, scrapbook, window display, TV/radio appearance, parade, educational display, etc.).

14. Teach a state or national level workshop (O4HC, OFMA, etc.).

15. Assist a younger member with their project or demonstration.

16. Serve as a club officer/committee chair. *Can use task twice with 2 different experiences

17. Serve on a county 4-H committee or teen leadership position (Camp Counselor, Junior Fair Board, Jr. Leaders, CARTEENS, etc.). *Can use task twice with 2 different experiences

18. Serve as an officer on a county 4-H committee or teen leadership position (Camp Counselor, Junior Fair Board, Jr. Leaders, CARTEENS, etc.). *Can use task twice with 2 different experiences

19. Serve on a state board or council (TLC, Fashion Board, 4HEYA, 4-H Foundation Board, etc.).

20. Interview for a position at county or state level (royalty, committee chair, officer, etc.).

21. Serve as a state officer or committee chair.

 

In addition to completing 14 of the above tasks, members must also submit the following along with their Emerald Clover award form to the State 4-H Office via the online application by December 1 of the year completed.

1. 4-H Resume (no more than 2 pages). Resume should highlight 4-H experiences and related school and community involvement.

2. 1-page Cover Letter describing how you have grown throughout your 4-H journey and influenced your future plans.

3. Video Submission (1-3 minutes) describing your 4-H experience and how it has impacted you.

Community Service:

Community service is defined as service that is performed for the benefit of the public or its institutions, an unpaid service for the benefit of the public. For the purposes of this award, community service must be conducted with a 4-H affiliated group (4-H club, county 4-H group, at a 4-H camp or program, etc.).

 

Examples: leading an activity for residents in a nursing home, collecting food items for a local food bank, collecting needed items for a pet shelter, beautification project at a local park, etc.

Items that do NOT qualify:

• • Jackpot Shows or Open Shows (non-4-H related livestock shows)
  • Non-4-H activities or leadership (school, sports, other extra-curricular activities)
