Volunteer Selection Process
Here's what to expect if you are considering volunteering in 4-H:
As you are gearing up for the next 4-H year, are you looking for new adults to become advisors or volunteers? Well, now is the time to start the application process. Any adult who is going to be alone with 4-H members must go through the volunteer selection process by following these steps:
· Obtain a volunteer application packet from the OSU Extension Office.
· Complete and return the application, complete with full addresses for three references, and a signed copy of the Standards of Behavior to the Extension Office.
· Complete a scheduled personal interview with
Extension personnel.
· Submit to a criminal history fingerprint record check (cost incurred by individual applying – at least $35).
· Extension professionals will review all information gathered from the above steps and make a final decision.
· Notification will be sent to the applicant in writing of approval/denial of volunteer status.
After these steps are completed and the applicant has received positive approval, the volunteer may organize a 4-H club or work as a 4-H youth development volunteer.
Deadline to apply for the 2010 4-H year is January 16, 2010.
The Volunteer Training and Recognition Banquet will be held Monday, February 22, 2010. There will be more information about the event at a later date.
