Page What is CARTEENS?
4-H CARTEENS is a traffic safety program conducted by 4-H teen leaders and their program partners for juvenile traffic offenders. 4-H CARTEENS goals include: reducing the number of repeat juvenile traffic offenders decreasing the number of teen traffic offenders, and increasing teen awareness of traffic/vehicular safety. Huron County 4-H CARTEENS program is a traffic safety education program for first time juvenile traffic offenders. The CAR in CARTEENS stands for "Caution and Responsibility", while TEENS refers to teenagers who prepare and present the session. Any Huron County teen that receives their first traffic violation is mandated by Juvenile Court Judge Timothy Cardwell, to attend one 4-H CARTEEN session as part of their court sentencing. The cost of their fine is reduced provided they attend the session. The sessions are two hours long and are offered one Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. At least one parent or guardian must attend with their son or daughter. The current cost for the program is $50.00.
