About Family Nutrition Program
- The Family Nutrition Program (FNP), also referred to as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistant. Program Education (SNAP-Ed), provides nutrition education to persons participating in, or eligible to participate in, the Supplemental Nutrition. Assistance Program (SNAP) (also know in Ohio as the Food Assistance Benefits program) now the cornerstone of FNS-USDA's nutrition assistance. The goal of FNP is to provide nutrition education programs that increase, within a limited budget, the likelihood of food assistance benefits (formerly known as food stamps) recipients (or eligible) making healthy food choices and choosing active lifestyles consistent with the most recent advice reflected in the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate. The Midwest Region of the Food and Nutrition Service funds Ohio State University (OSU) Extension's Family Nutrition Program.
